The Big Purple Phone is a new accessible Australian smartphone that is now available at the Vision Store. The new phone features an easy-to-use interface and many key features that are changing the way assistive technology is defined on a mobile device.
The phone was designed by Sydney entrepreneur Libby Henderson, who was inspired during the pandemic by the need to create a smart mobile device that was simple to operate for seniors and those needing better accessibility.
A thoughtfully designed phone
The result is the Big Purple Phone. It uses many technological advances and incorporates them into a simple operating interface. The phone itself is made a larger size from the onset, which greatly helps the visibility of its high-contrast touch screen.
The Big Purple Phone’s apps have big buttons and icons that have high contrast labels, big text and haptic pulse that speaks as you type. The phone is designed to display large, full screen notifications for incoming calls, messages and reminders so users do not miss out important information.
Sending text messages is easy with the option to either speak or type a message with the large high contrast keyboard.
More than just a mobile
One of the key advantages the Big Purple Phone is its ability to filter out unwanted spam calls and SMS messages when the optional Safe Callers List is activated. This is a true time saver especially for users who have low vision.
The Big Purple Phone SilverFox edition, which is now available at the Vision Store, users have the option of adding a web browser, Gmail, iCloud Mail, Outlook and Yahoo! Mail to the phone.
The phone also has a high-resolution camera for taking photos, and a handset LED to act as a torch. It also has standard Bluetooth and Wi-fi connection capabilities.
Now available at the Vision Store
There’s so much about the Big Purple Phone that makes it great for users who have low vision. And it is constantly growing when it comes to compatible apps in development, so there are more features waiting to be discovered. The phone is now in stock in most Vision Store locations, as well as the online shop.
