Overview
Using the internet and email can be a great way to access information, keep in touch with family and friends, shop and even pay bills. But it’s important to be aware of safety issues that can arise, and be able to minimize and avoid those risks.
Delivered by our Access Technology Specialist, this four-part program, will show you how to identify and protect yourself against scams and cyber crime, and how to be safe when using the internet.
Topics
Session 1: Cyber safety
What online safety means, and the importance of understanding how to be safe online. Types of threats, how to identify them and protect yourself in a safe and secure manner.
Session 2: Scamming
How scammers operate and what to do if you’ve been scammed. You'll also learn about phone calls and text message scams.
Session 3: Device Safety
Learn about locking and passwords for your devices, and how to set up a program to protect your computer from viruses (no additional charge). You will also learn how to report spam or other cyber attacks.
Session 4: Real examples of cybercrime activities

How to join
You can join this program from the safety and convenience of your home via computer, tablet or even your Smartphone. This program is delivered through Zoom, an accessible video conferencing program.
If you do not know how to use Zoom, our Adaptive Technology (AT) Help Desk will contact you after your place has been confirmed. They can assist you to set up Zoom so that you can participate in the program.
Cost
This program can be funded through your NDIS plan.
Requirements
You will need to be able to browse the internet and use email.
Your computer or device needs to have the following:
- Windows 10.
- Stable internet connection and audio (so you can hear and speak to the presenter).
- Zoom (If required, our AT Help Desk can assist you to set up Zoom).
