Talking Vision is Vision Australia Radio’s flagship program, discussing the latest news and issues from a blindness and low vision perspective.
This week we hear from Claudia, who catches up with Vision Sports host and producer Matt Lee.
Claudia is a member of Achilles, Australia’s premier running club for people with a disability, whose mission is to create an Australia where people with disabilities can enjoy the social, recreational and health benefits of an active lifestyle.
Recently Claudia completed the New York marathon after months of training and encouragement from friends and family, and she wants to encourage everyone regardless of ability to get fit and active and maybe even surprise themselves with what they can achieve.
“Running is possible for everyone, but even in a lot of races if you don’t actually run you can walk, a lot of races like the New York marathon have really lenient cut off times so there are people who walked the whole New York marathon,” Claudia said.
“The running community is just a great community, there’s not a lot of judgement, we’re there for each other, to support each other, regardless of how fast or slow we do things,” she said.
