The Queen's Birthday 2012 Honours List was announced on Monday 11 June 2012 by the Governor-General.
This year, Vision Australia is very proud to congratulate eight very special people who have been recognised for, among other things, their dedication to supporting people who are blind or have low vision.

OFFICER (AO) IN THE GENERAL DIVISION OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA
Ms Barbara Patterson BLACKMAN
For distinguished service to the arts and to the community, as a supporter of artistic performance, through philanthropic contributions, and as an advocate for people who are blind and partially sighted.
MEMBER (AM) IN THE GENERAL DIVISION OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA
Dr James Sunter MUECKE
For service to ophthalmic medicine, to the provision of eye health services and
rehabilitation programs for Indigenous and South East Asian communities, and to
professional organisations.Dr Muecke is an eye surgeon who specialises in blindness prevention and ophthalmic research and education in Asia and Indigenous communities in South Australia.
Mrs Margaret Kenyon TOMKINS PSM
For service to the community through the development of supported group housing,
the provision of a range of mental health programs and advocacy and support for
technology to assist the blind and partially sighted.
Margaret coordinated the Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind's Nursery Oral History Project and was involved in arranging the donation of historic photo
albums of the Nursery to the Vision Australia Archive. She was also the Treasurer of the Computer Users Group at Blind Citizens Australia between 2007 and 2011.
MEDAL (OAM) OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA IN THE GENERAL DIVISION
Mr Gregory James BROWN
For service to the community through support and fundraising roles for a range of charitable organisations. Mr Brown was also a member of the Working Group for Deaf, Blind and Intellectually Impaired Cricket events with Cricket Australia for 6 years.
Dr Joseph Latimer DAVIS
For service to medicine in the field of ophthalmology.
Dr Davis has practiced as an Ophthalmologist in the areas of Maitland and the Hunter Valley; since 1979. He frequently visited rural areas of NSW to deliver treatment to Indigenous patients affected by Diabetic Retinopathy. These visits were self funded and delivered.
Mr Frederick Alexander McDONALD
For service to veterans and their families, and to the community through a range of charitable organisations.
Dr James Herbert MARTIN
For service to medicine, particularly in the field of ophthalmology, and to the community.
Ms Amanda Louise THANE
For service to the performing arts as an opera singer, performer and teacher, and to the community.
