It's been a big week for Vision Australia with the official opening of two new centres in Queensland.Yesterday, Sunshine Coast Mayor, Mark Jamieson joined Vision Australia for the opening of the new centre in Maroochydore, taking the opportunity to participate in a blind fold walk with our Seeing Eye Dog, Nacho.
Under the watchful eye of Senior Instructor, Phil Brocklehurst, Mayor Jamieson described the experience as "quite confronting."
Today, staff at the Robina centre hosted festivities for their official opening.
The new purpose built facilities in Maroochydore and Robina will lead to increased support and enhanced mobility for people who are blind or have low vision in Queensland.
The new larger and more accessible facilities offer Vision Australia the flexibility to provide orthoptic services, occupational therapy and adaptive technology training as well as run support group programs for children and adults.
The new Maroochydore centre will also become the Queensland base for Seeing Eye Dogs Australia incorporating puppy development as well as Seeing Eye Dog orientation and mobility instruction.
