Vision Australia is proud to have presented Holly McLennan-Brown with the 2025 Vision Australia Youth Award.

Holly, a proud Yorta Yorta woman, received the award for her ongoing support of Vision Australia’s reconciliation work and broader efforts to better connect with First Nations communities.

A former hairdresser, Holly discovered a passion for painting and using the medium to connect with and tell stories meaningful to her culture.

Her growing artist profile caught the attention of Vision Australia, and she was commissioned to produce artwork for the organisation’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

While that began Holly’s connection with Vision Australia, her grandmother’s experience living with macular degeneration spurred her to learn more from the organisation and also become a volunteer.

“It feels good to give back. Your time will come back to you when you need help; that's the cycle of life, so it's nice to give back and keep the circle going,”

— Holly

“It was great to learn and be able to outsource education beyond what my nan knew, understanding what's out there and how I can help my nan.”

Holly credits her people and her connection to country for shaping her into the strong, empathetic, and caring person she has become.

Holly believes the Vision Australia Award is an honour but also recognises the many people she has worked with during her involvement with Vision Australia.

“It’s a genuine honour, as the relationship with Vision Australia has been a fantastic collaboration with many helping hands. It’s a real privilege to be recognised, though it truly reflects a team effort.”
