Building the Foundations with LEGO® Braille Bricks in your Classroom
Vision Australia Library, in conjunction with LEGO® Braille ambassador Melissa Fanshawe, recently hosted an online training workshop for schools and educators utilising Braille Bricks in their classrooms.
Presented by Melissa Fanshawe, this workshop was designed to provide teachers with a range of fun activities to have all students playing and learning with Braille Bricks. Melissa outlined new ways to incorporate Braille Bricks into the curriculum, to support literacy and numeracy skills for the entire class.
Not only do Braille Bricks provide children with the chance learn the braille writing system; playing and learning with Braille Bricks develops children’s social, cognitive, problem-solving and fine motor skills.

About the presenter
Associate Professor Melissa Fanshawe is an inclusive education researcher and senior lecturer at the University of Southern Queensland. She is also a trained teacher of students with visual impairments. Melissa is the education ambassador for Lego Braille Bricks in Australia.
LEGO® Braille Bricks Kits
LEGO Braille Bricks are available for loan through the Vision Australia Library to library members who are learning braille. Each kit includes literacy and numeracy-based activities designed for children.
