Talking Vision is Vision Australia Radio’s flagship program, discussing the latest news and issues from a blindness and low vision perspective.
Talking Vision was joined by a very special guest this week as Stella Glorie caught up with blind fashion designer and disability advocate Nikki Hind.
Nikki is the new star of the third and final book in the Big Visions series, Dressed For Success, which tells the story of her love of fashion from a young age, and how she achieved her dream of becoming a fashion designer.
Nikki shares some key messages for young people in the blind and low vision community working towards achieving any major goal in their life. From Nikki’s point of view it’s important to persevere in the face of any obstacles and challenges they might face, but she also understands first hand how overwhelming it can be.
"When you just keep stepping through you get used to the idea that if something’s gone wrong, it’s a temporary failure or there are obstacles in the way, or you’re exhausted.
“Just give yourself a bit of a break, have a reassess and just keep plodding forward and remember, keep in touch with what you love and why you fell in love with it in the first place,” Nikki said.
