You'll likely find them on train platforms, at the top of staircases, or at the edge of footpaths; but have you ever wondered what those raised markings actually are?
Those little raised circles and bars are known as tactile grounds surface indicators (TGSIs) and are vital to helping people who are blind or have low vision to detect potential hazards and safely navigate their environment.
For International White Cane Day, Chris Edwards, Vision Australia director of government relations and advocacy took the time to explain just exactly how TGSIs help people who are blind or have low vision.
