Talking Vision is Vision Australia Radio’s flagship program, discussing the latest news and issues from a blindness and low vision perspective.
On the show this week we have Sam and Erin Noblet, a husband and wife who recently started their own business, Tantalising Tours, which runs guided food and wine tours around the Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula.
The idea behind Tantalising Tours was something Erin had been thinking over for quite a while, and with Sam they jumped at the opportunity to home in on the sensory component of the experience.
“Whether you’re missing a sense or not, just tuning into each of your senses when you’re eating, smelling, touching, it almost becomes a mindfulness type of thing. You can really tune in with what’s happening with your own body and savour the flavours. When it comes to food and wine I actually get quite emotional!” Erin said.
Sam and Erin have put a lot of consideration into not just the sensory side of their food and wine tours but also making sure they are as safe and accessible as possible for participants who are blind or have low vision.
“Everyone has different needs and different guiding techniques, so just to make everything accessible and help them enjoy their day a little bit better we only have smaller groups just so that we can focus on everybody, it’s just safer and people have a lot more fun that way,” Sam said.
