Monash University are seeking participants for a precursor study of the Monash Vision Direct to Brain Bionic Eye Project.

Monash are currently recruiting severely vision impaired participants for a 2 hour MRI scan (two 1 hour scans or one 2 hour scan with a rest in between).

Participants will be provided with taxi vouchers to and from the MRI facility,
additional reimbursement for their time, and a nice cup of tea!

Study Aim

An MRI image of the brainTo compare the visual cortex architecture, volumetrics and white matter connections of patients with and without bilateral severe visual impairment, 
and to map the anatomical primary visual cortex via MRI. 
This will allow us to prepare for the future Alfred Hospital/Monash University

Inclusion criteria

  • Untreatable vision impairment for more than 12 months
  • Visual acuity:  less than, or equal to, Snellen’s Test Type 6/60
  • History of normal vision in adulthood
  • Intact visual cortex
  • Various ages to be matched to our control participants between 22 and 60 years
